Autistm Society: Monday

On Monday, We went to the ARC of Colorado to prepare for the film festival that we would be helping with on Tuesday.  We put together booklets with pre-posted envelopes for people to donate money to the ARC. The ARC is a group that helps with raising awareness and activism for people with all sorts of disabilities. The lady who worked there was impressed with how fast our group put together 568 booklets.  They had given us three hours to complete this task, but we got it done in approximately an hour. During this time, our group really got to bond.  Before Monday at noon, the volunteer coordinator at the Autism society had not given us a solid itinerary and after this would be the first time we got to meet her.  We were so glad to be doing something that we got excited and listened to music while we worked, danced around, and made each other laugh. We talked about a lot of things that made us feel like we could be open and silly with out having to worry about being judged. Once we completed this task, we got to meet Kim, the girl we would be working with for the rest of the week. She gave us an itinerary that we all got super excited about.

After helping out at the ARC, we went to the zoo as a group.  This was something that we had all planed to do and were all very excited about.  We had so much fun walking around and letting our inner child out. This made us all feel like a family (which is what we refer to ourselves as) and was a great way to end the first full day in Denver. This was one of my favorite days in regards to group time because it was never awkward for us, we were super comfortable from the start. Plus, I am literally obsessed with zoos.
