SALS

On our Fourth day in West Virginia we went to Oak Hill again to help work and organize many materials needed in the building. We continued to clean out more rooms and packed a great deal of large objects into the basement, and took a lot of trash into the dumpster. I really enjoyed this day as well because we continued to learn more and more about the people who were working with us as well. One worker in particular named Craig was really great I got to know a lot about him and found out that we have many similar outlooks on life and interests. It was great to get to know him better and talk about interesting topics, many of the other workers were fun and nice and welcoming. Because of how much fun we had with everyone there and because everyone was so great it was Eileen’s idea to buy ingredients for cookies to bring on our last day of volunteer work for everyone there. After our work at Oak Hill we went to the store to purchase all the ingredients and went back to Beards Fork to play with all the kids, we played UNO again and said our goodbyes to the children because it would be the last day we would get to see them. Later on that night we got a chance to hear a local musician named Billy Payne who sang some of his songs to us. He is a local country singer who has some albums of his own out. It was really nice to hear what he had done and I think it was even better to hear someone who is a local West Virginian. After he finished singing we were able to talk to him a little and get to know some more about what he has done. After listening to Billy Payne sing we went back to the building we had been staying at and began to make the cookies we planned for everyone. It was a lot of fun again for all of us to get together and cook while continuing to get to know each other better, it was a great time for us all to hang out and act goofy. The very next day, our last day of volunteer work at Oak Hills, we continued the last bit of work we had to do there and gave the cookies we had made to everyone. They really enjoyed the cookies we had made for them and because it was our last day there I was very sad because I truly enjoyed being there it did not feel as though we were doing volunteer work because I had so much fun and liked getting to know everyone. I believe they were also sad to see us go because they did say we were the best group they had come in to volunteer, that we were laid back and that they also had fun with us while we were there.
